THE HIP HINGE - RESIST PRESSURE

Following on from the previous post about using hips to retain possession under pressure, one more point to successfully applying this technique is hinging from the hips; folding the body in half, by leaning the torso forwards as the hips throw back – similar to the starting position on a Romanian Deadlift.

This hinge keeps you structurally sound to propel away in a different direction, gives a direct view of the ball, and most importantly compromises the opponent’s ability to wrestle you out of the way. Applying this technique means the defender has nothing to grasp onto with their hands - making it difficult to apply the stronger defensive techniques that top-level players use to knock a ball carrier off-balance.
